Eugenia Naro-Maciel

Dr. Eugenia Naro-Maciel is a Marine Biodiversity Scientist at the CBC and the founding leader of the CBC's Sea Turtle Research and Conservation Program. In her research, she focuses on sea turtles and genetics of marine organisms. In addition, she works with marine educational materials produced through the Network of Conservation Educators and Practitioners. Genia received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2005, where she studied connectivity of green sea turtles in the Atlantic, with a focus on foraging aggregations in Brazil. While at Columbia, she also completed multi-disciplinary coursework in Environmental Conservation, earning a Certificate in Environmental Policy. Marine chelonians have been her main research interest since interning with the Brazilian Sea Turtle Conservation Programme in 1991. She returned to Brazil as a Fulbright scholar to conduct sea turtle research for conservation purposes. This followed graduating Cum Laude from Yale University in 1994, where she majored in Biology.
