metro area; in NJ, present in the Delaware
River watershed and Ramapo River; 
CT: extirpated

Note: Healthy populations are present in 
other NY watersheds north and west of 
the metro area

Conservation status: Formerly 
abundant, now recognized to be in 
decline. NY: not legally protected;
NJ: threatened; CT: special concern 
(extirpated); should be sought in 
Fairfield Co

Conservation challenges: More needs 
to be known about the current distribution
of this species in metro area Connecticut
and New Jersey especially
